Sunday May 7/06 -Bebop Cowboys at the Lula Lounge, Toronto
What a terrific night! The venue is terrific (although I found the food expensive and not very much to my liking
(they didn't have tea and far too many vegetables!)-my guests Mary Gauthier and her guitarist Thomm Jost split
for coffee and pastries across the road at some wee Portuguese bakery.
But the music...any band that's fronted by Steve Briggs is gonna be good-and the whole affair smoked: Western swing
with bite, killer solos, tight arrangements and great songs. Guests galore (including Wendell Ferguson, Downchild's
Chuck Jackson, the gorgeously-gowned Alex Pangman and a three-person fiddle section for the first and last numbers
of the evening), and first rate playing from everyone. Drew Jurecka, who also plays with Jeff Healey's Jazz Wizards,
was just as at home with this music as he is with Jeff's...A five star evening!
